Music of a WOMAN

Who am I most like? No one. I am only me. LOL. However I definitely have favorites who influence me: Ciara, MIA, Beyonce, TLC, Envogue, and( my girl!) Toni Braxton. Of course for various reasons, but mainly because they are bold. I am a bold woman and my music is bold. The lyrics, the topics, the delivery.  I love people and I want them to find love and their own truth and beauty within my songs. My songs don’t allow my listeners to be victims and to be pitiful, my songs are instead meant to empower them. I like to think of my music as soul music you can dance to: deep lyrical content, excellent vocals, on top of a hot beat. Maybe I’ll even go as far as to create my own genre and label it Soul Dance.  Really, I just want to offer a different perspective than what is out there for listeners to choose from when dealing with issues like love, respect, money, day to day living. I want to make people aware that in this life, everything we do is a choice that we ourselves make. We choose to be happy, we choose to be sad. When our hearts are broken, we can choose to grow, learn, and love harder the next time Or  we can choose to be angry, blame others, and close our hearts from the miracle of love. So when you listen to my music, open up your heart and dance.

Why can’t people live without music?  Because music is the extension of self, and a reflection of the soul. For an artist to water down their music would be like selling their souls. Kimberly is one with her soul, and with her music. Born in Los Angeles, California, where image is everything and opinions matter, Kimberly felt herself at odds with the people around her. Always marching to the rhythm of her own drum, she was not able to fit in with her peers the way she wanted to, but when she got on stage and her light shined brightest. No one could ever deny her star quality. The greatest, the most genius, unique and creative souls could never be average, and fitting in was never meant in their make up.  Kimberly always had a passion for drama; she graduated NYU with a drama degree specializing in musical Theatre. Performing is her passion, and she intends to do it all. Her music is her thoughts, her secrets, and her love. She has been writing songs since she was 12, and discovered then that that was the only way she could ever express herself. Staying true to who she is, and what she believes, Kimberly believes her music is the medicine that will cure the world. Kimberly is all about female empowerment and has a passion to uncover and solve issues dealing with women in all communities. There are so many issues that need to be talked about. Her songs focus on female empowerment; and in a backhanded way, by teaching women how to fully love and respect themselves, she is also setting the example for men to follow.

Kimberly is also in the rap/ singing music duo The Psyche Effect, Alongside her best friend and roommate Syhaya Smith.  Please check out the link above to The Psyche Effect’s myspace page.
